Valentines from scratch takes you back to elementary school days. Easy construction paper, a glue stick and maybe some markers...
We’re sharing some simple grown-up variations. This is a good excuse to repurpose gift wrapping paper, fun catalogue or magazines spreads, and miscellaneous note cards. We let our imagination run wild and we also checked in with Martha Stewart for inspiration.
Take an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. Draw a heart. Cut it out. Fold the top, bottom and sides of the heart to the middle to form a rectangle. Write your message on the inside of the heart. Seal with a sticker, or fun Washi tape.
We found a great idea in Martha Stewarts’ craft library. See template in link for LOVE. We used a sheet of scrapbook paper to make our LOVE cut-out. Then glued it to an oversized white card.
Cut or die-cut hearts. Hole punch a small hole at the top center of the heart. String heart on narrow ribbon, Baker’s twine or even white dental floss. Tie heart with one loop to keep in place. Add next heart to string leave 6-8” between hearts and tie down heart. Keep going until you have finished your message. Use a gold metallic pen or color marker to write your message on the front and back! A simple “XOXO” is grand! Stuff this valentine in an envelope for easy delivery.
Cut 1/16” tripes of decorative paper (scrapbook, fashion catalogue), card stock in various colors or patterns, or paint on a blank sheet of watercolor paper.
Weave the stripes of paper together – alternating under/over.
Flip weaving over. Paint underside with Mod Podge glue using a sponge top brush. Flip over glue side onto a blank postcard or greeting card. Press down gently to secure weaving and let dry.
Use a combination of washi tapes to create a collage heart. Cut tape at various lengths to create the perimeter of the heart. Fill in and layer over as the creative spirit moves you.
