Rustic-Chic Mother’s Day Entertaining
Some holidays require a lot of work and preparation. Mother’s Day should not be one of those. This Mother’s Day, we want to keep it sweet and simple so we can focus on the most important thing – celebrating our moms.
Rustic-chic is the style we’re going with – from the table, to the food, to the flowers. Think fabulous with a touch of the countryside.
We pulled out our favorite set of gingham placemats and pearly-white bowls, cups and saucers. Our flower vases are everyday items we found in the house. Here we used large Mason Jars, but you could get as creative as you like. Try old coffee pots, large aluminum cans, glass pitchers and other containers you have at home.
You may notice that Middle Sister Wines have a new look. Earlier this year we asked you, our Wine Sisterhood, to vote on the label designs you liked the best. Well, here she is – with a “Drop of Wisdom” on each bottle!
Leave a comment at the bottom of this post and let us know what you think of Middle Sister Wines’ new look – we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Splurging on a beautiful bouquet from our local flower shop can be very necessary on occasion, but we also believe that with a few simple tricks, grocery store flowers can be gorgeous. These are our tips for creating a beautiful arrangement on your own:
As you’re browsing the flowers at your local store, limit your choices to a max of two complementary colors. For our table we chose peachy-pink roses and light green hydrangeas.
At home, choose your vase and arrange the flowers in a bouquet in your hand positioned how you’d like them to look in your vase. Place a rubber band where your hand was to hold everything in place. Cut the stems to fit your vase.
Add a rustic touch by using an over-sized Mason jar as a vase or make a creative centerpiece with flowers arranged in glass jars of different sizes.
When it comes to food, we do like to go all-out from time to time (see our past Mother’s Day Biscuit Brunch), but sometimes it’s best to keep it simple. This year we’re going with our Just Peachy Granola recipe, served with milk or yogurt.
We love homemade granola. It’s quick, can be made ahead of time and is stored easily. It’s also packable and highly snackable. Really, what’s not to love?
Here’s the recipe!
Just Peachy Granola Recipe
- 1/2 cup light olive oil or Canola oil
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups oats
- 1 cup almonds, smashed with a hammer
- 1 cup flaked coconut
- 1 cup dried peaches, chopped
Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Mix oats and almonds in a large bowl. Heat oil, honey and vanilla over medium heat until it bubbles and blends. Pour honey mixture over oats and almonds. Stir until well-combined.
Spread oat mixture onto a baking sheet with either a Silpat covering or aluminum foil over the pan. Bake for around twenty minutes, stirring once or until all is evenly browned.
Remove oat mixture from oven, cool on pan. After cool, break up into bowl. Add coconut and peaches, stir until evenly distributed.
