May is for Moscato!
In honor of National Moscato Day on May 9th let’s start planning for summer with my tips for a glorious vacation…where to go, what to drink and what to read.
Where should we go? I suggest somewhere on the water where we can eat some hot spicy food. Think Miami Beach, San Diego, The Gulf Coast. I pair really great with Mexican, Thai, Cuban or Indian food! I usually go straight to a mobile app on my phone to find the best spicy foods wherever I am. Maybe I should have been called Sweet and Spicy!
So, we’ve figured out our destination. We’ll make a refreshing sangria first thing in the morning so it’s ready by wine o’clock. What’s really fun about making sangria on vacation is that we’ll have to go to a local market for fresh produce. If we can’t find a farmer’s market, a local grocery can be fun too. Meet the locals and check out the foods. I love adventures!
Sweet & Sassy Moscato Sangria
1 bottle of Sweet & Sassy Moscato
½ cup orange liqueur (like Triple-Sec)
1 liter Club Soda
1 Peach, sliced
1 Apple, sliced
1 Orange, unpeeled and sliced
1 Lemon, unpeeled and sliced
Strawberries, blueberries and any other local, seasonal fruits
Fresh mint for garnish
Pour me into a large pitcher along with the liqueur and club soda. Add the fruit. Let us mingle…get to know each other for a few hours, after all, we’re on vacation too! Pour us into a tall glass and top with a bit of mint to make us look gorgeous. We girls like our accessories!
I think we need a good summer read to really relax. Nothing too serious, nothing sad. Here are a few of suggestions.
Sometimes it’s the little lies that turn out to be the most lethal…A murder…a tragic accident…or just parents behaving badly? What’s indisputable is that someone is dead. But who did what? Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads. Now a mini series on HBO.
From the New York Times best-selling author of The Middlesteins comes a wickedly funny novel about a thirty-nine-year-old single, childfree woman who defies convention as she seeks connection.
All Grown Up is a breathtaking display of Jami Attenberg’s power as a storyteller, a whip-smart examination of one woman’s life, lived entirely on her own terms.
Nora Holmes is a prolific young painter who is given the opportunity from her grandfather to travel to Europe and create art to send to him at each stop on her journey. Her apprehensive mother tries to put the kibosh on the trip until at the very last minute she decides to accompany Nora. And We’re Off is chock full of delightful mother-daughter banter…a gleefully fun read.
