Up your grill game with the perfect pairing: Cartlidge & Browne wines and bespoke Cheeseburgers by Cabot Cheese
It’s grilling season, and our food thoughts turn to cheeseburgers, arguably that most all-American of all American dishes. It struck us that one of our very favorite wines, Cartlidge & Browne, share initials—C&B—with one of our fave foods (CheeseBurgers, get it?) Our friends at Cabot Cheese have inspired us to pair some of their delicious cheeseburger creations with C&B wines.
But before we get to cheeseburgers and wine, a quick story about Cartlidge & Browne—one of the great American wine success stories. Funny, because the wines were created by a Brit, Tony Cartlidge. Some 30 years ago, Tony was sitting in the cab of a cement mixer on a nuclear power plant construction site in Washington State, reading a book of great California winemakers. He decided that the wine business sounded better than the trucking business, hopped into his 1960s Rambler and headed to Napa Valley.
Tony wrangled himself a job, learned winemaking, loaded up the truck with grapes sourced from top North Coast vineyards and then made one of the most successful wines of the 1980s. Cartlidge & Browne wines continue to be known for their great quality and value. Only in America could a truck-driving Brit with zero experience go on to create a much-loved wine brand, still going strong after 30 years.
We hope you are inspired by the spirit of Cartlidge & Browne, and enjoy these pairings with absolutely delicious cheeseburger recipes from Cabot cheese, another authentic, American original!
