Tailgating Time: Saturday Dips, Chips & Sips
Summer may be over and that whirlwind of a world series has been all played out, but football season rolls on – and those fans need to be fed! Chips and dips are one of our go-to traveling tailgating treats, whether we’re headed out to watch a game at a friend’s house or in our favorite team’s parking lot.
We’ve pulled together some of the tastiest dip recipes we’ve seen this season from our Tailgating Pinterest Board below. Cheers to friends, fun, fabulous food and football!
A game-winning dip is going to need a chip that can hold up to the test. When we have a bit of extra time to prep for a tailgating party, it’s nice to bake up a batch of pita or tortilla chips. Bonus – they can be healthier than the store bought kind. Here are a couple of how-tos to walk you through:
First up, a delicious guacamole recipe from Wine Sister Angeles. No bowls needed here, you prepare it right in the shell! In ten simple steps:
- Slice avocado lengthwise.
- Twist apart.
- Mmmm creamy yumminess inside… (Ok, that’s not really a step).
- Score avocado flesh (not necessary, but makes the mashing easier).
- Add a dash of salt (use your table shaker & give it a quick tap).
- Slice a lime.
- Squeeze 1/3-1/2 of the lime over your scored avocado
- Mash the avocado, lime juice, and salt together with a fork, being careful not to pierce the shell, but being sure to scrape all the flesh away from the shell.
- Dice and stir in a cherry tomato for color (this isn’t necessary, but makes it look pretty!).
Mexican Corn Dip
Like Mexican Street Corn, but in scoopable form. Genius!
Jalepeño Popper Dip
That cheesy-filled snack, combined in one yummy little dish.
Miso, Sesame and Sweet Potato Dip
Add something a bit lighter to the table with this veggie-based recipe.
Seven-Layer Bean Dip
Always a crowd favorite, this layered creation has got it all.
Chicken & Waffle Sliders
Ok, these don’t involve chips or dips (unless you count syrup), but they’re so stinkin’ cute we just had to share them!
May we present… our Tailgating All-Star Team! From chips and dip to chili and burgers, these are the wines we think will fit with all your favorites. Look for Wine Sisterhood Ravishing Red Cabernet Sauvignon, Deep Purple Zinfandel, PromisQous Red Blend, Middle Sister Wild One Malbec or Monogamy Cabernet Sauvignon at your favorite wine retailers.
A few wines from our Tailgating All-Star Team made an appearance on our Halloween Posole Party, pictured above. Pick up our Posole recipe (also great for tailgating) and table setting tips in our post here.
