Step Aside Cupcake, Sweetie Pie is in the House!

Last summer, when we introduced Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato, many of you asked for a sweet red partner to go with. This summer, we’re happy to introduce the newest addition to the family, the tenth fabulous Middle Sister, Sweetie Pie Red.

She’s a sweet and delicious blend of Merlot and other light and fruity red varietals. Fermentation was stopped just before the blend was completely dry, producing a lightly sweet wine balanced with refreshing acidity.

In order to find out if YOU’RE a Sweetie Pie (or would like to drink of glass), our back label asks these three simple questions:

Do you eat dessert first?

Do you keep and emergency supply of cupcakes on hand at all times?

Have you ever met a piece of strudel you didn’t like?

If you answered yes to all three, consider yourself an official Sweetie Pie!

All silliness aside, sweet wines are one of the hottest trends around. Lots of you prefer to drink sweet, and we would love it if you reach for Middle Sister Sweetie Pie Red or Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato instead of a sweet cocktail. Hey, it’s a win-win all-around.

And just in case you need to brush up on some of your pie-making skills, here’s a link to the latest Serious Eats newsletter and THE definitive discussion on how to make killer pie crust. I know how I’ll be spending my weekend!

One last thing about Sweetie Pie. Even though this is a red wine, in the warm months, try chilling it in the refrigerator and serving cold paired with favorites such as barbequed chicken, ribs, steaks or burgers. The sweetness in this wine makes it pair particularly well with spicy Asian or Latin-inspired marinades. A slight chilling makes it pure refreshment when the thermometer hits 100.
